Fault Finding & Repair

Tripping RCDs, dead circuits, lights that flicker for no obvious reason — electrical faults are frustrating, and tracking them down takes real experience. ANP Electrical has spent thirty-five years diagnosing exactly these kinds of problems across the West Midlands.

We do not guess. Every fault-finding visit starts with a proper set of dead tests using calibrated insulation and continuity meters, followed by live testing only where it is safe to do so. That approach catches the root cause quickly instead of replacing parts until something works.

Common culprits we see every week: water ingress in outdoor sockets, failing immersion heater elements, cooker hood extractors with damaged flex, loose neutrals in junction boxes hidden inside kitchen units, and rodents chewing through loft cabling. We have seen them all.

Most single-circuit faults are diagnosed and repaired in one visit. Where a fault needs deeper investigation (for example, intermittent faults that only appear when it rains) we book a second visit at no additional call-out charge.

Our process

How a fault finding & repair job usually runs.

STEP 01

Describe the symptoms

Tell us what is happening and when. Even a short call helps us bring the right kit.

STEP 02

On-site diagnostic test

Dead tests first, live tests only when safe. Typically 30–90 minutes.

STEP 03

Explain the fault

We show you what we found, explain it plainly, and give you fixed-price options.

STEP 04

Repair and retest

Repair carried out, circuit retested, and a minor works certificate issued.

Common questions

Straight answers.

How much does fault finding cost?

Our fault finding visits start from £85 for the first hour, which typically covers most single-circuit faults. We quote before any repair work begins.

My RCD keeps tripping — what does that mean?

It usually means there is a small current leaking to earth somewhere on the protected circuits. Could be a faulty appliance, a damaged cable, or water ingress. We systematically isolate each circuit to find it.

Can you come out today?

For genuine emergencies — yes, any day of the week. For routine fault finding we can usually offer next-day bookings across Cannock and the surrounding towns.
