fuseboard upgrade Cannock

Consumer Unit (Fuseboard) Upgrades

If your home still has a fuseboard with rewireable fuses, push-in neutrals, or a plastic enclosure without RCD protection, it is time for an upgrade. A modern 18th Edition consumer unit with RCBO protection is one of the single biggest safety improvements you can make to an older home.

Current regulations require individual RCBO protection on most circuits, a metal enclosure, and surge protection for new installations. We upgrade consumer units across Cannock and the wider West Midlands, typically in a single day with only a few hours without power.

Before the upgrade we test every existing circuit to make sure it is safe to connect to a modern RCD-protected board — a lot of cheap upgrades skip this step and end up with nuisance tripping from hidden faults. We include this testing in our fixed price.

Every consumer unit upgrade is notified to building control under Part P, tested with calibrated instruments, and signed off with a compliance certificate posted to you.

Common questions

Straight answers.

How long without power?

Typically 2–3 hours. We isolate only when we are ready, work efficiently, and get the power back on as quickly as safely possible.

Do I need an earth rod?

Only if your supply is TT (no earth provided by the network). Most homes in Cannock are on a TN system and do not need one. We confirm during the survey.

Will my old circuits work with a new RCBO board?

Almost always, but not always without remedial work. Damp, perished insulation, or poor connections can cause nuisance tripping. We test before committing so you do not get any nasty surprises.
